Description
ING Group is a global top 20 financial services company, currently offering banking, investments, life insurance and retirement services to meet the needs of a broad customer base. Going forward, we will concentrate on our position as an international retail, direct and commercial bank, while creating an optimal base for an independent future for our insurance operations (including investment management).
S&BC, ING’s internal management consulting arm, provides consulting services to all of ING’s business units across all functional lines (banking, investments, life insurance, pension and retirement services). Our consultants assist business unit CEOs and executive board members with strategy formulation across the various business lines and all geographies, where S&BC focuses on high visibility, high impact projects.
The exposure to a wide range of topics, lines of business and top management, makes S&BC an ideal breeding ground for future management. Consequently S&BC has had an excellent track record in both core strategic projects as well as in placement of ex-S&BC members in senior positions.
The value proposition for S&BC to ING is:
- Strategy consulting expertise
- Knowledge of financial services
- Wide project experience within ING and a strong internal network
- Practical, "down to earth" approach and solutions
What are we looking for?
This role is for a junior member on our consulting teams - you are responsible for analyzing, composing and delivering a detailed solution to the issue at hand. To achieve that, you work with a multi-disciplined project team composed of 2-3 S&BC consultants, representatives of internal clients and (sometimes) external consultants.
Profile
- Very strong academic track record, with a university degree (Masters-level preferred)
- 1-3 years of strategy experience from a top-tier management consulting or financial services firm. The majority of our junior consultants have less than 3 years total work experience
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills - a clear understanding of how to link strategy to financial plans
- Ability to utilise research to develop deep insights and drive actionable results (“business sense”)
- Persistent, open and convincing communicator. Able to work effectively with all levels in the organisation, including senior management
- Clear history of success and driving impact
- Ability to work effectively in teams
- Must be fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch is very advantageous
- Willing to travel worldwide
Our team
The department consists of 15-20 professionals coming from inside ING and externally - mainly from strategy consultancy firms (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain).
The team acquires its own projects (bidding on them in an open demand-supply environment and competing, when necessary, with external strategy consulting firms) and bills internally for services rendered. The focus of large scale projects is typically on Business Units strategy, where businesses meet the market. Projects typically have an impact of €10m+ bottom line. Since its initiation in the 1990s, demand has consistently exceeded the supply and projects continue to receive high grades in the evaluation.
We offer you
- An interesting position within a strong team, in an international financial company
- A full time position and a competitive salary
- Work location is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. However, as we operate globally, some
travel will be required.
